So this week went pretty good. I'm not really feeling much like writing but I will try. The weather today in Florida is in the 80s. Woah. There are people laying out by the pool and going to the beach. Guess what comes with warm weather in Florida....Mosquitoes! We had a lesson outside with a very wonderful ward member and Sister DeSpain and I got eaten alive! Who knew that could happen in February? Not this sister missionary!
Enough about the weather and the bugs. We had a somewhat busy week. But now that I think about it I can't really remember what happened. We were thinking about dropping one of our investigators because he is so busy and just wasn't reading from the Book of Mormon and wouldn't even really commit to an appointment. But we stopped by his apartment and had a wonderful lesson with him. We talked about faith and prayer and helped him to understand why it is so important to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. We talked about what it would mean for him if it was true. He finished up the lesson with a very sincere prayer. He prayed that he would know if the Book of Mormon is true and even prayed that his family would be understanding about him investigating the church.
We had an interesting encounter with a less-active member last night. He didn't tell us that he had a girlfriend (although we kind of guessed he did). When we got to his house they were out on the porch. He said, "Opps! We're in trouble!" Anyway, she was very nice and invited us in. I won't go into the crazy details but this member is a pretty funny old man and his girlfriend was very vocal. We didn't stay long but we got her number and she told us to call her later this week. We'll see how that goes.
What else....We found a potential investigator on the street yesterday. It was a miracle, really. We had been knocking some doors and decided randomly to walk back to our car a different way. We ran into this lady and she was so sweet. She had short dark hair and in the front it was dyed purple. I told her that I liked it and she told us that she is a Breast Cancer survivor. We showed her a Mormon message on our iPad. She told us that she has two teenage children and that her husband is an Irish Catholic and said "You have your work cut out with him!" She told us that she is open to listening and that we can come back anytime. We are so excited to go back and talk to her again!
We went and visited one of the members this week (if you can't tell, there is a huge focus on reactivation and getting members involved in missionary work in this ward). Anyway, she just got released from being the YW president and is now in the stake YW presidency. We sat in the sunshine in her front yard and she told us about her conversion story. It was so wonderful. She was going to a military school and had basically given up on believing in God. It was a beautiful story and she is a splendid woman. Wow. She has 6 kids and I don't even know how she does it! Then on Sunday, she got up in fast and testimony meeting and mentioned that we had come over and that ever since we talked to her she thought about it and gave a beautiful testimony about her relationship with God.
We had a baptism in our ward on Saturday! One of the other sets of sisters taught this wonderful lady named LeAnn who lives with some recently reactivated members. It was an amazing baptism.
