I prayed and prayed. I wasn't getting an answer. I knew in the back of my mind that this was going to be a decision that God was going to leave up to me. I had to decide. Between two great things. So, being the indecisive individual that I am, I decided not to decide. I did both. I went to the teacher fair, turned in job applications, went to job interviews and at the same time I made an appointment to meet with my bishop to start my mission papers.
I asked my bishop to give me a blessing and I got an overwhelming feeling that I wanted to go on a mission. I didn't feel like it was necessarily the right decision, but I knew that if Heavenly Father left it up to me I would choose to go on a mission.
As I was leaving his office my bishop asked if I had Preach My Gospel. I said "yes". Then he asked if I had the Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple pamphlet. I said "yes". He looked at me and said, "You're ready to go on a mission, aren't you?" "Yes, Bishop, I am ready."
The job hunting drastically slowed down at that point. I didn't feel at all motivated because I knew what my choice was. A month or so later my papers were turned in and on May 2, 2013 that white envelope came in the mail.
Dear Sister Kasteler:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Florida Jacksonville Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months.
You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the English language....
Now, here I am, joyfully serving as one of the Lord's army of missionaries in Florida.
